Lactation Support

Volunteer run group
South Essex Lactation Support is a volunteer run group. We are all trained through The Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM) to either peer supporter or breastfeeding counsellor level and we are fully insured. We also have links to IBCLC support, should you need it.
We run two in person support groups per week, on a Monday and Friday.
Book in For Free
We run two in person support groups per week, on a Monday and Friday.
You can book onto those for free here.
These are drop-in sessions, come and go as you please. We only take bookings to keep an eye on numbers so that we have enough volunteers to support you.
They’re a great way to meet other local families, you don’t have to come with problems and questions, you’re very welcome to just come along for a chat and a cuppa (refreshments only available at our Friday group).
Older siblings, grandparents, partners, friends etc are all so welcome to come with you. They are as much a part of your feeding journey as you are.

A Little About us
We originally began in Stanford-Le-Hope under the name Thurrock BRAS (breastfeeding, reassurance, and support) it was started by Mandie Groves who started running it voluntarily once a week after her infant feeding job in the NHS got cut, meaning zero support for local breastfeeding families.
Deborah, Gemma and Annaliese who started as parents needing support, trained as peer supporters then helped to turn it into Basildon & Thurrock BRAS – merging with an existing group run by Deborah in Basildon.
Becoming a community interest company meant that we were able to apply for funding and grants which are vital to keep the group running. We also rely heavily on donations from families who we support.
